Drive West Midlands was proud to feature as one of the largest exhibitors at the Advanced Engineering Show. After its highest-attended show ever in 2015, Advanced Engineering UK has cemented its reputation as the UK’s largest gathering of advanced engineering professionals from Original Equipment Manufacturers and supply chain partners under one roof.
The presence at Advanced Engineering UK 2015 was a collaborative effort between all the LEP areas across the West Midlands. The partners were Business Birmingham, Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Invest Black Country, Invest in Telford, Make it Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire, and Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership.
Each LEP area selected a company and invited them to exhibit on the Drive West Midlands stand. The criteria for selecting the businesses was that they must be in a relevant advanced engineering sector, complement the Drive West Midlands initiative, should be innovative and highly regarded and ideally of a high profile in order that we would be showcasing the West Midlands’ strengths in automotive and advanced engineering. The companies were:
- Gestamp (Cannock, Staffordshire)
- Advanced Chemical Etching Ltd. (Telford, Shropshire)
- Rimstock Plc (West Bromwich, The Black Country)
- Barkley Plastics Ltd. (Birmingham)
- AVL UK (Kidderminster, Worcestershire)
- Penso (Coventry)
The aim of the Drive West Midlands stand was to promote the initiative and raise its profile amongst the automotive sector. In addition, LEP partners were aiming to generate inward investment leads from companies in the sector with an interest in their area, including potential FDI.
Robert Evans, CEO of Cenex, presented on behalf of Drive West Midlands. His session, The Importance of Innovative and Disruptive Technology Businesses, was well attended and helped attract a wider audience to the Drive West Midlands Stand.
